India beat South Africa by seven wickets in the shortest match in Test history to level the two-match series 1-1, thanks to a brilliant bowling performance by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled such dangerous bowling on the second morning of the second and final Test match here today that South Africa’s middle order collapsed and despite a brilliant century by Aden Markram (106 off 103 balls), the team went to lunch. Just before, in the second innings, they were dismissed for 176 runs in 36.5 overs, which gave India a target of 79 runs for victory. Jasprit Bumrah bowled 13.3 overs and took six wickets.

Chasing the target, the young batsman of the Indian team Yashasvi Jaiswal (28 runs) lost his wicket, but captain Rohit Sharma (17 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (4 not out) scored 80 runs for the loss of three wickets in 12 overs. Made the team win.

India’s victory will be remembered for the performances of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj. Siraj was instrumental in bowling out South Africa for 55 in the first innings with a career-best six-wicket haul.

With the series tied, Rohit Sharma became the second captain after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2010-11) to draw the series in South Africa. But India has never won a Test series in South Africa so far.

In terms of overs, this was the shortest Test match so far in which a total of 106.2 overs were bowled.

Before this, 109.2 overs were bowled in the Test match played at the MCG between Australia and South Africa in 1932. This match was won by Australia.
