Rahul Gandhi, while advocating for the Congress leadership’s decision not to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in the context of the ongoing conflict, strongly argued that the ritual of idol installation has been turned into a “political spectacle” with the convergence of Narendra Modi and the RSS-BJP. He stated that it is challenging for him to participate in a “political event” involving the Prime Minister and the Sangh Parivar. Gandhi emphasized that for him, living the Hindu religion is a way of life, and he strives to live according to its principles.
During his address at a press conference amidst the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Gandhi stated, “The RSS and BJP have turned the January 22 event into a complete political spectacle with Narendra Modi at the center. It has become an RSS-BJP event. I feel that is why Congress President (Mallikarjun Kharge) has said that he will not be attending the ceremony. We respect all religions.”
