Chandigarh, February 16 (press ki taquat bureau): A potential breakthrough has been reached in the talks between farmer union leaders and the Centre. Despite the union leaders’ refusal to end their protest until a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for all crops is provided by the Centre, the protest will now be conducted peacefully. The five-hour-long meeting between the union leaders and a team of three Union ministers commenced with a delay of over three hours and aimed to resolve the ongoing stand-off between farmers and the Centre. Subsequently, a fourth round of talks is scheduled for Sunday.
As per information obtained by The Tribune, there was a prolonged deadlock during the meeting, with the farmer leaders insisting on a legal guarantee for MSP on all crops. The central team, consisting of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Arjun Munda, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal, and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, explained the challenge of immediate implementation and proposed the need for an expert committee to study and execute such measures. Additionally, the ministers highlighted that the current Parliament session had concluded, making it difficult to promptly establish legislation on this matter.
