New Delhi: During a press conference on Thursday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi called upon the younger generation, particularly those from Gen Z, to take an active role in defending the Constitution and to combat what he described as “vote theft.” His remarks sparked a sharp rebuttal from BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who asserted that the new generation is firmly opposed to dynastic politics. The exchange intensified after Gandhi encouraged students and young people born in the early 2000s to safeguard democracy, pledging his support in their struggle against alleged electoral malpractices. He emphasized the importance of youth engagement, stating that they would be the ones to uphold the Constitution and protect democratic values. In his press briefing, Gandhi made serious allegations regarding the manipulation of votes in Karnataka and Maharashtra through centralized software, claims that the Election Commission dismissed as unfounded. In response, Dubey criticized Gandhi’s statements, arguing that India’s Gen Z is not only against dynastic politics but also stands firmly against corruption and ideological inconsistencies. He questioned why the youth would support Gandhi, given the legacy of his family, which includes prominent figures like Nehru, Indira, Rajiv, and Sonia. Dubey further warned Gandhi on social media, suggesting that if the anger of Gen Z escalates, he should be prepared to leave the country, insinuating that the youth’s aspirations could lead to significant political changes.
