AAP leader Lucky Oberoi was tragically shot and killed early Friday morning outside a gurdwara located in the affluent Model Town area of Jalandhar. He sustained four gunshot wounds and was promptly transported to a private hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A sewadar at the gurdwara recounted that Oberoi was a familiar face, visiting daily, and had just completed his prayers before settling into his Thar vehicle. As he was in the process of putting on his shoes, he was ambushed by assailants on an Activa scooter. At the time of the shooting, two events were taking place within the gurdwara, including an Anand Karaj ceremony. Initially, the sound of gunfire was mistaken for celebratory fireworks by those present, but it soon became clear that a violent act had occurred. Rajwinder Thiara, the AAP Jalandhar Cantt halqa incharge, noted that Oberoi’s routine visits to the gurdwara may have made him a target, suggesting that the attackers were likely familiar with his schedule. The incident unfolded around 8 am, with Oberoi suffering critical injuries to both his chest and head. Professionally, he was a financier, and his wife, Simarjot Kaur, had previously run for a councillor position in the area on an AAP ticket in December 2024, though she was not successful in her bid.
