Disturbing video footage captured the moment when Syed Mazahir Ali was walking along a road, only to be pursued by three individuals wearing masks. The gravity of the situation is further emphasized by another video clip, where the victim can be seen bleeding profusely as he recounts the harrowing ordeal he had just experienced. This distressing incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased safety measures and vigilance in our communities.Ali, a student pursuing his Masters in information technology at Indiana Wesleyan University, fell victim to a distressing incident when he was assaulted and robbed by a group of three men on Campbell Avenue. In light of this unfortunate event, Ali’s wife, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi, residing in the Langar Houz area of Hyderabad, made a heartfelt plea to the esteemed External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, seeking his assistance in ensuring that Ali receives the best possible medical care for his recovery.In her correspondence to the minister, she made a formal request for travel arrangements to be organized for her and their three underage children to the United States. She recounted receiving a distressing phone call from a close friend of her husband, informing her that he had been assaulted and robbed on Campbell Avenue, near his residence. As a result of the incident, he had to be admitted to a hospital. Fatima expressed her concern for her husband’s safety, mentioning that she managed to establish contact with him after some time, but he was still in a state of shock and unable to communicate effectively. The severity of the attack was evident from the injuries he sustained, with blood flowing from his forehead, nose, and mouth. In a video plea for assistance, Ali recounted that he had been returning home with a food packet when he was pursued and assaulted by a group of four men. He explained that he slipped near his house, which provided the assailants an opportunity to physically assault him, snatch his mobile phone, and subject him to further mistreatment.In the aftermath of the attack, the Indian Consulate in Chicago has made it known that they are maintaining communication with Syed Mazahir Ali and his wife, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi, who resides in India. The Consulate, in a statement posted on X, has emphasized their commitment to providing Ali and his family with any necessary support. It is evident that the Consulate is actively engaged in ensuring the well-being and assistance of Ali, a resident of Hyderabad, and his loved ones during this challenging time.Last week, a tragic incident occurred in Cincinnati, Ohio, where a young Indian student named Shreyas Reddy was discovered deceased. The circumstances surrounding his death remain a mystery at this time, leaving authorities searching for answers. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise. Equally distressing, on January 29, Vivek Saini, another Indian student, fell victim to a brutal attack inside a store in Lithonia, Georgia. The assailant, a homeless man, mercilessly struck Saini multiple times with a hammer, resulting in his tragic death. Although a video capturing the horrifying incident circulated widely on social media, the exact date of the occurrence remains unconfirmed, adding to the overall sense of shock and disbelief. These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of international students, prompting a critical examination of security measures and support systems in place to protect them.
