An AirAsia flight took off from Terminal 2 of the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru to Hyderabad without taking Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on board. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, July 27. The airline cited a delay in his reaching the terminal, however, officials said the Governor was waiting at the airport lounge. Meanwhile, the airline has also been accused of “breaching the protocol.”
According to an official of the governor’s protocol team, the governor had reached the VVIP lounge before time and was waiting. The official said the Governor reached the airport at 1.30 pm and was waiting in the VVIP lounge of Terminal 1. He said the ground staff of the airline were also informed about his arrival and, as per protocol, all arrangements were made for the Governor to board last.
The flight, I5972, was scheduled to take off at 2:05 pm. The governor reached from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 at 2:06 pm, but the airline staff refused to allow his boarding, citing delay, the official claimed. According to the protocol officer, the plane took off at 2.27 pm but the airline staff did not allow the Governor to board the plane.
Airline issues statement on the matter
Meanwhile, a case has also been registered in this regard by the Governor’s office at the airport police station. Later, the airline issued a statement on the matter, saying an investigation is being conducted and appropriate action will be taken. “We sincerely regret the incident. The senior leadership team of the airline is in contact with the Governor’s Office to address the concerns. Our commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and adherence to protocol remains unwavering, and we deeply value our relationship with the Governor’s Office,” stated a spokesperson of the airline.
