Anti-Indian slogans were written on the walls of a temple in the US state of California. Police are investigating the case as a possible hate crime. The City of Newark Police Department in Newark, California, told the news agency through e-mail that on Friday at around 8.35 am, they received information about anti-Indian slogans being written in Sri Swaminarayan Temple. After this, the officials took action and met with the management of the temple who termed it as an incident aimed at intimidation. The City of Newark Police Department said in a statement, “Based on the content of the slogans on the walls, it is believed that there was a conspiracy to deface the temple and that the vandalism was a possible hate crime.” It is being investigated as a crime.” The Consulate General of India in San Francisco has strongly condemned the incident. In a post on X, the consulate said, “We strongly condemn the vandalism of the SMVS Sri Swaminarayan Temple in Newark, California with anti-India slogans. The sentiments of the Indian community have been hurt by this incident. We have pressed for an immediate investigation by the American authorities in this case and for quick action against those who did this.
