22-05-2023(Press Ki Taquat)– P Chidambaram has hit out at the Center for demonetizing Rs 2000 notes and exchanging them without ID proof. The former finance minister said that the Modi government at the center had done demonetisation earlier and had no success in curbing black money and now this move is a new drama. He said that to expose black money, Rs. BJP’s move to withdraw notes has now collapsed.
The State Bank of India had clarified the other day that no identity card or form would be required to exchange Rs 2,000 notes. Finance Minister P Chidambaram questioned the central government saying how changing Rs 2000 notes without ID will help you trace ‘black money’.
The general public does not have the 2000 rupee note as people stopped accepting it soon after its introduction in 2016. Chidambaram said these notes were not fit for daily retail use, so people stayed away from them. He said that it is clear who kept the Rs 2000 notes and how they will be used now.
