In several parts of Kashmir, the minimum temperature has dipped below zero degree Celsius and the cold wave is continuing in the entire valley. Kashmir is currently in the grip of ‘Chillai-Kalan’. It is a harsh winter period of 40 days. During this period, a cold wave sweeps through the region and the temperature drops drastically, due to which the famous Dal Lake and other ponds and lakes freeze. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius. Dense fog covers Srinagar and the city is not visible beyond 50 meters. Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.4 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, a famous ski resort in Baramulla district, recorded a temperature of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius.
