Delhi, 10 may (Press ki taquat bureau):  The Supreme Court, on May 10, decided to grant interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until June 1 in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. The court instructed Kejriwal to surrender to the prison authorities by June 2, setting a clear timeline for his compliance with the legal proceedings.

Justices Khanna and Dipankar Datta, who formed the Bench overseeing the case, mentioned that a detailed order on the matter would be issued shortly. They emphasized that it would not be appropriate for the Chief Minister to carry out his official duties or handle administrative files while under interim bail, as it could have far-reaching consequences. Justice Khanna highlighted the potential ripple effects of such actions.

The decision to grant interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal was met with approval from various political figures, with Opposition leaders expressing their support for the move. Congress leader Pawan Khera welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention and hoped for a period of reflection for the Prime Minister post his term. The sentiments were echoed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Priyanka Chaturvedi, who all viewed the bail decision as a positive step towards upholding democratic values in the country amidst challenging political circumstances.
