Before this, Dr. Gurnam Singh has been serving in the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for almost 31 years, serving as Deputy Director Seed, Deputy Director Headquarters, Assistant Maize Development Officer, RSCO (Seed Certification Organization) and Agriculture Officer. are
On this occasion, District Training Officer of District Patiala, Group Block Agriculture Officer, Assistant Sugarcane Development Officer, Group Agriculture Development Officer, Group Agriculture Extension Officer, Assistant Agricultural Engineer and Superintendent branch staff welcomed them.
On this occasion Dr. Gurnam Singh appealed to the farmers that direct sowing of maximum area of paddy during the monsoon season, less time consuming PR. Varieties, Basmati, Maize, Mangrove should be brought under so that the falling ground water level can be saved. He said that farmers should not plant Pusa-44 variety because this variety is not recommended for planting in Punjab by Agriculture University Ludhiana and this type of seed is not certified by the Seed Certification Organization. Subsidy is being given by the government on 13 varieties of ripe maize under crop diversification program and financial amount of Rs. 6000 per hectare on different inputs will also be given to farmers under cluster exhibitions. Dr. Gurnam Singh appealed to the farmers that as many soil and water samples as possible should be tested by the Agriculture Department so that according to the report the organic matter of the land can be increased and the use of unnecessary fertilizers can be reduced.
