The entire country has been enveloped by the monsoon season six days earlier than expected, with the onset date being July 2nd. Heavy rainfall has been reported in almost all states across the nation, causing severe flooding in various regions. The situation is particularly dire in the North-Eastern states of Manipur and Assam, where the overflowing rivers have led to widespread inundation.
In Manipur, the state government has taken precautionary measures by declaring a holiday in all government offices and closing schools until July 4th. Tragically, a 25-year-old man lost his life after falling into the Senapati river, highlighting the dangers posed by the current weather conditions. Additionally, a significant portion of the India-Myanmar road has been submerged, affecting over 1000 individuals in the region.
The impact of the monsoon season is also being felt in other parts of the country, such as Assam and Gujarat. In Assam, the death toll due to floods has risen to 48, with more than 11.3 lakh people affected in 23 districts. Meanwhile, in Gujarat’s Junagadh, heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding, leading to the isolation of 30 villages. The situation remains critical, with the IMD forecasting heavy rain in multiple states and issuing alerts for potential flooding in several others.
