Chandigarh, July 11 (Press ki taquat bureau): Over five months after the border between Haryana and Punjab was sealed to prevent farmers from protesting peacefully, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has intervened. The court has directed the state of Haryana to open the Shambhu border on an experimental basis to avoid inconvenience to the general public, setting a week’s deadline for this purpose. The court also noted the barricades at the Khanauri border in Sangrur district and emphasized that the “lifelines of the state of Punjab” were being blocked without sufficient cause, and it would be in the public’s interest for Haryana to not continue blocking the highways indefinitely.
In addition to this, the Bench of Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Vikas Bahl has made it clear that Haryana must take effective steps to maintain law and order against protesters who exceed their limits. The farmers’ unions participating in the agitation have also been instructed to uphold law and order.
