The Supreme Court is set to convene on Tuesday to address a suo motu case concerning the rape and murder incident in Kolkata. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which has already acknowledged the gravity of the situation, has prioritized this case for a hearing scheduled at 10:30 am. In a related development, the West Bengal government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital. This four-member SIT will be under the leadership of Dr. Pranav Kumar, the Inspector General of the Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy. As per the notification released by the West Bengal Home Department on August 16, the SIT is authorized to access any pertinent documents from both government entities and private organizations that may be necessary for its inquiry. The team has been instructed to complete and submit its findings within a month.
