Mehul Choksi, a diamantaire who has been evading law enforcement, was apprehended in Belgium in response to an extradition request from Indian investigative agencies concerning his alleged role in the Rs 13,000 crore Punjab National Bank loan fraud case, as reported by official sources on Monday. This significant development marks the arrest of the second key suspect in the case, following the earlier apprehension of Choksi’s nephew, Nirav Modi. The action was executed on Saturday, prompted by a formal extradition request submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Choksi, aged 65, was discovered in Belgium last year, where he had traveled ostensibly for medical treatment. Since departing India in 2018, he had been residing in Antigua.
