A recent terror attack in Pahalgam, located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 26 lives, predominantly those of tourists. This incident marks the deadliest assault in the region since the infamous Pulwama attack in 2019. The attack occurred at Baisaran, a picturesque meadow that is accessible only by foot or pony, where a group of visitors had gathered on Tuesday morning. Responsibility for the attack has been claimed by The Resistance Front, a covert faction linked to the banned Pakistan-based terror organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), although an official government confirmation is still pending. In response to this heinous act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed that those responsible would face justice and not escape accountability. He returned to India early from a trip to Saudi Arabia and convened an urgent meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the Delhi airport to discuss the situation. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation from global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, all of whom expressed their solidarity with India during this difficult time.
