Family members of a physician, who was reportedly raped and murdered in this location last month, joined the protesting medical staff at RG Kar Hospital on Wednesday, expressing their grievances against the Kolkata Police for allegedly attempting to conceal the circumstances surrounding the case by hastily cremating the doctor’s remains.
During the demonstrations at the state-operated RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where their daughter’s body was discovered on August 9, her parents vocally demanded justice and accused a high-ranking police official of attempting to bribe them following the revelation of the incident.
“From the outset, the police have made efforts to downplay the severity of this case. We were denied access to the body and were forced to remain at the police station while it was transported for an autopsy. Subsequently, when the body was finally returned to us, a senior police officer approached us with an offer.”
