15 may (Press ki taquat bureau): All-rounders are common in sports, but rare in the film industry. Piyush Mishra is a notable exception, admired by readers, film enthusiasts, playwrights, and music aficionados alike. Recently, he was invited as a chief guest at Tagore Theatre for the performance of his play, Gagan Damama Bajyo, written three decades ago, showcasing a different facet of his talent.
The event was organized by Shoolini Creative Studio, the drama club of Shoolini University, as their annual production under the direction of Ankur Bashar, Assistant Professor of Performing Arts. Mishra shared insights on the play’s inception in 1994, inspired by his director NK Sharma’s vision to spark discussions on freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and the idea of a liberated India.
During the interactive session with the audience and performers, Mishra questioned the limited portrayal of Bhagat Singh in educational textbooks, contrasting it with the extensive coverage of other historical figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. He emphasized the need for a deeper understanding of history, shedding light on Bhagat Singh’s evolution from a romantic revolutionary to a pragmatic thinker, highlighting lesser-known aspects of his life and ideology.
