CHANDIGARH, 4 AUGUST (Shiv Narayan Jangra): The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has provided loans to the tune of Rs. 10593.28 lakh to the 10069 youth of schedule castes and Backward Classes during the last four years besides waiving of debt worth Rs. 52 crore outstanding towards 15890 SC/BC youth.
Disclosing this here today Punjab Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharmsot said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Capt. Amarinder Singh during its tenure of almost 4 years had provided loans of Rs. 8202.26 lakh to 8662 eligible and needy SCs youngster while loan of Rs 2391.02 lakh were given to 1407 youth applicants of Backward Classes.
The minister said that the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation and Punjab State Backward Classes Land Development and Finance Corporation have already waived of loan of Rs. 50,000 of SC/BC beneficiaries. He said that 14260 beneficiaries of SC communities got benefit of Rs. 45.41 crore. Similarly a total of 1630 beneficiary youth belonging to backward classes of Punjab have been forgiven a debt of Rs. 6.59 crore.
Mr. Dharmsot further said that the state government has given the authority to sanction loans up to Rs.1 lakh to district managers of SC/BC corporations as well as completed the formality on fast track. Similarly the District Level Screening Committee has been revised and a new committee is constituted under the chairmanship of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minority Officer to provide loans to the people as soon as possible.
Mr. Dharamsot said that SC/BC the main objective of the corporations is to provide low interest rate self-employment to the unemployed youth belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes in dairy farms, grocery shops, clothing shops, shuttering work, lumbering, low interest rates for higher education loans.
Mr. Dharamsot further said that SC Corporation has provided financial assistance worth Rs.2293.73 lakh to 2116 beneficiaries while in 2021-22 the SC corporations had set a target to provide loans worth Rs. 40 crore to 1400 applicants where as 634 beneficiaries has already avail the loans of Rs. 760.84 lakh. Likewise, BC corporation has given financial assistance of Rs. 769.64 lakh to 446 beneficiaries in 2020-21. In current financial Year the BC corporation has set the target of providing loans worth Rs. 934.02 crore to 614 beneficiaries of which 47 has received loans to the tune of 82.40 lakh so far.
