Patiala, 10 June (Press Ki Taquat Bureau) : In a review meeting dated 09.06.2022 of Punjab Pollution Control Board, Chief Minister of Punjab reiterated firm commitment of his Government for clean, green, pollution & corruption free Punjab. During meeting, the Chief Minister specifically pointed out about the problem of black smoke being emitted from the chimneys of brick kilns operating in the State and advised the Officers of the Board to take necessary remedial measures to mitigate this issue. He emphasized to implement the induced draft zig-zag technology in true letter & spirit. Sh. Rahul Tiwari, IAS, Secretary, Science, Technology & Environment has directed the Officers of Punjab Pollution Control Board to launch a major drive to guide the brick kiln owners for adopting good practices to make the induced draft technology a success and takes stern actions against non-compliant/violators.
The Chairman, Punjab Pollution Control Board has taken a meeting with the Member Secretary and Senior Officers of the Board on 10.06.2022 and sensitized them about the issue. It was noted that more than 2100 brick kilns out of 2400 brick kilns have already adopted the new induced draft zig-zag technology. It was pointed out that unscientific coal feeding practices,steep rise in the price of coal resulting in blending with other fuels and unauthorized fuel are some of the reasons of black smoke from brick kilns. The Chairman of the Board directed the Officers to guide & facilitate the brick kiln owners by extending guidance for good practices and persuade them to take necessary steps to overcome the problem of black smoke and take strict action against those who are using illegal fuels and habitual violators.
Prof. (Dr.) Adarsh Pal Vig, Chairman has appealed to the brick kiln owners and other industries of Punjab to operate their pollution control systems religiously and not to indulge in illegal practicesand to give their support for making Punjab a clean & green State.
