Punjab Rural Development and Panchayats Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar today instructed the officials of the department to bring the employees of MGNREGA under the purview of Employees State Insurance (ESI).
Presiding over a meeting of the representatives of the MGNREGA Employees Union here at Punjab Bhawan, S. Laljit Singh Bhullar said, the Punjab government is committed to the welfare of employees working under MGNREGA. He said that the state has witnessed significant improvements in it’s position during the last year in the country for implementing the MGNREGA, and all due to the tireless efforts of the employees working under MGNREGA, which has been recognized nationwide.
MGNREGA Employees Union apprised the Minister about their demands, which were immediately resolved by the Cabinet Minister. The Minister also instructed the officials to issue show cause notices to those officials and employees who do not comply with the orders regarding making one year contract with the contract employees under MGNREGA scheme. He said that the cases of the MNREGA employees, who have been sacked due to not meeting the target, should also be re-examined.
