A police officer lost his life and 70 others sustained injuries during confrontations between supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and law enforcement officials who were stationed to obstruct the demonstrators from advancing towards Islamabad, as reported by the Punjab government on Monday. During a press briefing, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari revealed that numerous police officers were taken “hostage” amid the violent clashes instigated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters en route to the capital. The 72-year-old ex-premier made a “final call” for widespread protests scheduled for November 24, which he characterized as a response to what he described as a usurped electoral mandate, the unjust detention of individuals, and the enactment of the 26th amendment, which he argued has bolstered a “dictatorial regime.”
