As per the directions of NALSA and Punjab State Legal Services Authority, Mohali and under the able guidance of Ms Rupinderjit Chahal, Ld. District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, today, visits were conducted in Central Jail, Patiala and Open Air Jail, Nabha by Ms Manni Arora, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala. On this occasion, Hon’ble Judge talked to the jail inmates about their grievances/problems being faced by them. Jail Superintendent, other officers and staff of the jails were instructed to ensure timely redressal of their grievances/problems and were directed to pay special attention towards health and medical facilities which are being provided to the jail inmates. Jail Authorities were asked to provide the proper medical facilities to Jail Inmates. Apart from this, they were apprised of the rights available to jail inmates and about the concept of plea bargaining.
In addition to this, a medical eye camp was also organized in Open Air Jail, Nabha by District Legal Services Authority, Patiala in collaboration with health department and jail administration. In this camp, 30 inmates were medically examined by specialists of Eyes Dr. Manmukh Singh and Dr. Mandeep Singh.
Besides, a stitching training camp was organized by District Legal Services Authority, Patiala in Central Jail, Patiala in collaboration with Anti Corruption Crime Prevention, Oriented Policing Society, Chandigarh. In this training camp, training is being provided to 20 woman jail inmates, so that after release from jail, they might be able to live in the society respectfully and they can earn for their livelihood.
