Chandigarh, January 25 (press ki taquat bureau):

The cold weather continued to prevail in Haryana and Punjab on Thursday, as the minimum temperatures remained below normal in several areas. According to the meteorological department, Sirsa experienced the lowest temperature in Haryana at 3.6 degrees Celsius. Other cities in the state also faced chilly conditions, with Hisar and Fatehabad both recording temperatures of 3.8 degrees Celsius. Ambala registered 4.6 degrees Celsius, Bhiwani 5.7 degrees Celsius, Karnal 4.4 degrees Celsius, and Rohtak recorded 5.8 degrees Celsius.

The Union territory experienced a significant decrease in its maximum temperature on Wednesday, reaching a chilling 8.4 degrees Celsius. This drop marked the coldest day in the city over the past ten years. To put it into perspective, back in January 2013, Chandigarh had recorded a maximum temperature of 6.1 degrees Celsius, making this recent temperature even colder.

Meanwhile, the biting cold extended its reach to various parts of Punjab. Gurdaspur witnessed a bone-chilling low of 4 degrees Celsius, while Patiala, Bathinda, and Faridkot experienced temperatures as low as 5 degrees Celsius each. Similarly, both Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded a frigid 5.5 degrees Celsius, and Pathankot wasn’t far behind with a low of 6 degrees Celsius.

Additionally, the morning hours were plagued by dense fog, leading to reduced visibility in many areas across the two states. This weather condition added to the already cold and wintry atmosphere, creating a challenging environment for residents and travelers alike.
