A group of temples, monasteries, and religious organizations in Karnataka have advocated for the implementation of a “dress code” in over 500 temples in the state, including 50 in Bangalore, according to Indian cultural traditions. The organizations have appealed to the Minister of the state regarding the implementation of the dress code. Mohan Gowda, the convener of the Karnataka Devasthanas Federation, stated in a statement, “Today, when the dress code has been implemented in temples, some supporters of progress, rationality, and emancipation are creating a stir, but they have no objection to priests wearing white clothes, maulvis wearing pajamas, or Muslim women wearing black hijabs.” He further stated that it is not possible to have the freedom to visit temples in non-traditional clothes for the purpose of seeing God’s manifestation.
