Chandigarh 4 July 2024 (Press Ki Taquat Bureau) :-
The Chandigarh Meteorological Department has recently issued an orange alert for the residents of the City Beautiful in anticipation of the upcoming monsoon. The alert predicts rainfall for the next three days, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature to drop to 28 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the city experienced a high of 36 degrees Celsius, which was approximately 1.7 degrees above the normal temperature for this time of year. Additionally, the Meteorological Department Director, A. K. Singh, highlighted that significant weather changes are being observed in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh due to the rainfall.
The North Zone and West Zone are currently experiencing heavy rainfall, with the forecast indicating continuous rain for the next 6 to 7 days across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Some areas may experience intermittent rain during this period. Haryana has already been placed on an orange alert due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall in various regions. Similarly, Punjab is expected to face heavy rain and strong winds for the next five days, prompting a yellow alert in the state. Last year, Chandigarh faced severe flooding on July 8, 9, and 10 due to heavy rainfall, which was attributed to administrative negligence.
To prevent a similar situation this year, the Meteorological Department plans to provide advance information about monsoon changes on their website, application, and to the Chandigarh administration. This proactive approach aims to alert residents in advance and mitigate any potential risks associated with heavy rainfall. The monsoon conditions are expected to persist until September, with the city already experiencing 23.9 mm of rainfall recently. Chandigarh’s Deputy Commissioner, Vinay Pratap Singh, has instructed the clearance of Sukhna Chow, Patiala Ki Rao, and N Chow to prevent flooding. Additionally, 315 disaster response personnel will be deployed to ensure a quick and effective response to any emergencies that may arise.
