Over five thousand teachers from government schools were transferred in a single day, causing a stir among the teaching community. These educators, who have dedicated a decade or more to their respective schools, were shocked by the sudden decision. Despite Education Minister Atishi’s efforts to halt the transfers by issuing a letter to the Education Secretary on Monday, the orders were still carried out after midnight on Tuesday.
The affected teachers expressed their discontent by meeting with the Director of Education on Wednesday to address the issue. Subsequently, they plan to escalate the matter by meeting with the Lt. Governor on Thursday. The recent directive from the education directorate mandated all teachers serving in the same school for more than ten years to apply for a transfer, or face being reassigned to a different school.
The controversial decision by the directorate has instilled a sense of panic among the teachers, prompting Education Minister Atishi to intervene. Despite her plea to the Education Secretary of Delhi to reconsider the decision in the teachers’ favor, the transfers proceeded as planned. Following the transfers, which affected a significant number of teachers across various categories, efforts are underway to challenge the decision and seek resolution through higher authorities.
