Lucknow, 27 February (press ki taquat bureau): A day after skipping a meeting with party chief Akhilesh Yadav regarding the Rajya Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Kumar Pandey resigned from his position as party chief whip.
Eight BJP candidates and three from the Samajwadi Party were in the running for the 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh with voting taking place on Tuesday.
Pandey, representing Unchahar constituency in Raebareli, was previously a cabinet minister in Akhilesh Yadav’s government.
SP leader Akhilesh Yadav had called a meeting to brief MLAs about the voting process for the Rajya Sabha elections, but Pandey and seven other SP MLAs did not attend.
Acknowledging that eight MLAs had missed the meeting, SP’s national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary did not disclose names.
