Today, 12 out of 13 Members of Parliament from Punjab took their oaths for the 18th Lok Sabha. Unfortunately, Amritpal Singh, who emerged victorious from Khadur Sahib, was unable to participate in the oath-taking ceremony as he is currently incarcerated under the National Security Act. Despite his absence, all 13 MPs from Punjab were granted permission to be seated in the Parliament this afternoon.
The oath-taking ceremony commenced with Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, the MP from Gurdaspur, followed by Gurjit Singh Aujla representing Amritsar. Gurjit Aujla took his oath while holding the constitution in his hand, symbolizing his commitment to upholding the principles enshrined within it. Subsequently, the MPs raised spirited slogans of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, and Jai Constitution’ to express their solidarity. Notably, Amritpal Singh’s name was called out during the proceedings, although his physical presence was conspicuously absent.
After Gurjit Aujla’s oath-taking, the former Chief Minister and MP from Jalandhar, Charanjit Singh Channi, was sworn in. Following him, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabewal, Malwinder Singh Kang from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Punjab Congress Pradhan Amarinder Singh Raja Waring, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa from Faridkot, Dr. Sher Singh Ghubaya, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare, and Dr. Dharamvir Singh Gandhi took their oaths. It is worth noting that Bhai Amritpal Singh remains incarcerated in Dibrugarh Jail. Despite his absence, his name was mentioned in Parliament today, drawing attention to his current situation under the stringent provisions of the National Security Act.
