ਕੈਨਬਰਾ 26 ਜੂਨ ( ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਕਿ ਤਾਕਤ ਬਿਊਰੋ ) :- Australia’s Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by Russia seeking a stay on the decision to remove the Russian embassy from a plot of land in the national capital Canberra. Justice Jen Jagott of the High Court dismissed the petition, saying Russia’s move to challenge the law abolishing land leases on constitutional grounds was “weak” and “incomprehensible”. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed the high court’s decision and expressed hope that Russian authorities would vacate the plot soon.  Australia’s parliament passed an emergency bill on June 15, under which a lease granted by Russia on a plot was terminated on security grounds, as Moscow’s new embassy (Australian) to be built on it was to be very close to the Parliament Building. During the hearing, Russian lawyer Eliot Hyde argued that if the Russian embassy was not allowed to retain possession of the plot until a decision on a petition challenging the termination of the lease, Ambassador Alexei Pavlovsky would not be confident of the integrity and security of a high commission already present there. Elliott said that the person who has been living in a temporary room on the said plot for the last one week is a security guard who is guarding the place.
