Ludhiana, March 30 (press ki taquat bureau): The recent warning from the Meteorological Department in Chandigarh has caused concern among farmers due to the “orange alert” issued for Saturday, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds at speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.
The adverse weather conditions could potentially harm the wheat crop, which is nearing harvest readiness, with the combination of gusty winds and hailstorms posing a risk of lodging the crop.
Agriculture experts have cautioned farmers against irrigating their fields to prevent waterlogging, as the cool temperatures are beneficial for the wheat crop, but wind and hailstorms could result in damage.
Sarvan Singh, a farmer from Jagraon, highlighted the previous damage caused by hailstorms and expressed concern over the potential risk posed by the upcoming wind and hailstorm, which could lead to lodging and discoloration of grains in the wheat crop.
