The quest for charting the course unknown leads one to many a places and the persons unexplored hitherto. Imbued with a passionate zeal to traverse such a road, I discovered a humanitarian mission in Tohana, a town in the Fatehabad District (Haryana) where Col. Bhim Singh Foundation is selflessly serving the cause of humanity since its inception about a year ago.
Stepping into the headquarters of the foundation at Hisar Road, New Bypass in Tohana, I found the ambience very serene and the man behind the Mission- Vikram Bhim Singh Tohana quite unassuming. Settling into the talking groove with relative ease, the saga of the foundation unfolded before my like a reel as Vikram Bhim Singh narrated the journey of the institution founded in the name of his illustrious father Late Col. Bhim Singh who belonged to 12 Kumaon and served the nation for two decades and fought for the country in the 1971 Indo – Pak war.
Listening with rapt attention, I found that even before it formally came into being, the institution rendered yeoman’s service to the society during the traumatic times of Covid-19 pandemic and provided succor to the beleaguered people in whatever way could. It was then, I was told, that the idea of giving a formal shape to the foundation sprouted in the mind of Vikram Bhim Singh and the result is before all to see.
Owner of Vikram Greenlands stud farm in the premises itself, Vikram Bhim Singh is an alumni of Mayo College, Ajmer, and did his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Sri Ram College of Commerce (Delhi University).
A few minutes into the conversation, I became sure that here before me is an amazing man who has donned the hat of a crusader against social evils and is the brain behind the running of an awareness campaign against the menace of drug (All types ) in 100 villages around Tohana (Tohana Constituency).
Living up to the dictum of ‘Health is Wealth’, Vikram Bhim Singh has also initiated free eye check-up camps in Schools & Villages besides distributing Free Spectacles to the needy.
What made me awestruck was the fact that Vikram Bhim Singh has not taken a single penny as donation or any financial help from anyone for his NGO and is funding the entire philanthropic works from his own pocket.
If I thought the narrative above was wonderful, I was wrong because more was yet to come.
By the grace of Waheguru, Vikram Bhim Singh has got constructed a Gurudwara Sahib near the foundation premises itself, this too with his own resources, which would be the Biggest Gurudwara Sahib in the radius of 50 Kms. The construction work began in April 2023. Constructed on almost 45000 Sq. Ft (5000 Sq. Yard), the Gurudwara Sahib would also be equipped with a library and a langar hall.
Vikram Bhim Singh has thus created a rare example in the country & and especially in the Sikh community and yes……rare people do exist.
