Chandigarh, 20 January (Press Ki Taquat): The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is continuously working for the welfare of families suffering from atrocities.  Therefore, under the Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989, an amount of 7.65 crores has been released for the year 2022-23 to compensate the families which are victims of atrocities.

Giving information in this regard, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said that Centrally sponsored scheme under the Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955 and Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989 has released the amount as part of the budget provision of the state during the year 2022-23.  Due to this, approval has been given to release an amount of Rs 7.65 crore as the state’s share.

She instructed the officials of the department to speed up the process of giving compensation to the families of the victims under Act 1989.
