Sonepat, March 10 (press ki taqaut bureau): In today’s selection trials for the Asian Olympics qualifiers, Bajrang Punia and Ravi Dahiya, both Tokyo Olympics medallists, faced defeat in their respective bouts. Punia, who was known for his protest against former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, suffered a significant loss of 1-9 in the men’s freestyle 65kg semifinal against Rohit Kumar.
Earlier, Punia narrowly won against Ravinder with a score of 3-3 on criteria, and if Ravinder hadn’t conceded a caution point, Punia would have been eliminated in the opening bout. Despite training in Russia for the trials, Punia’s victory in the Delhi High Court proved that the suspended Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had no authority to conduct the trials.
