As of 9 AM, Haryana has reported a voter turnout of 9.53 percent. The polling process for the 90-member Legislative Assembly, governed by the BJP, commenced on Saturday morning, with 2.03 crore eligible voters tasked with determining the outcomes for 1,031 candidates competing in the elections.
To facilitate the voting process, a total of 20,632 polling booths have been established, and the voting will proceed until 6 PM, all under stringent security measures. In the state’s rural regions, many voters were observed arriving at polling stations well before the official start time of 7 AM. The electoral battle is anticipated to be primarily between the BJP, which seeks to secure a third consecutive term with its “double-engine” government despite facing internal dissent, and the Congress party, which aims to unseat the ruling party by highlighting the discontent among key demographics, including farmers, employees, unemployed youth, and wrestlers. Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal noted that the electorate comprises 2.03 crore individuals, including 1.07 crore men, 95,77,926 women, and 467 voters identifying as third-gender.
