In a recent address to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal emphasized the importance of public trust in his leadership, stating that he would only assume the Chief Minister’s position once he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the people. This declaration underscores his commitment to integrity and transparency in governance. While he has not disclosed who might succeed him, he has unequivocally ruled out the possibility of Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister implicated in the excise scam, taking over the role. Kejriwal further asserted that he and Sisodia would only be reinstated in their respective positions if the public deems them to be honest leaders. As the competition for the next Chief Minister intensifies, several prominent figures within the AAP are emerging as potential candidates. Atishi, who currently manages essential portfolios such as finance and education, has proven to be a vital asset during the absence of both Kejriwal and Sisodia, particularly noted for her adept crisis management during water shortages. Saurabh Bharadwaj, another key ally of Kejriwal, oversees critical departments like health and urban development, positioning him as a prominent face of the government during this transitional phase. Additionally, Gopal Rai, a seasoned cabinet member responsible for the Environment Department, and Kailash Gahlot, who manages multiple portfolios including transport and women and child development, are also in contention. The incoming Chief Minister will face significant responsibilities, including reorganizing the Delhi Council of Ministers following the resignation of former minister Raaj Kumar Anand and convening meetings for the National Capital Civil Service Authority.
