At least 105 individuals have lost their lives, and 359 others have sustained injuries due to Israeli airstrikes throughout Lebanon, as reported by the Health Ministry of the country. The most significant number of fatalities occurred in the South Governorate, where 48 individuals were killed and 168 were injured in the areas of Ain Al-Delb and Tyre, according to the Ministry’s statement released on Sunday. These assaults followed a recent airstrike on the densely populated southern suburbs of Beirut, which resulted in the death of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, a group that has been involved in cross-border hostilities with Israel for nearly a year. Hezbollah has asserted that its actions are in solidarity with Hamas militants in Gaza, who launched an attack on Israel on October 7, an event that has precipitated the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territories. Following Israel’s shift in military focus from Gaza to Lebanon, the intensity of cross-border exchanges has increased significantly, leading to Israeli strikes that have claimed hundreds of lives since the previous Monday, marking the deadliest period since the civil war that spanned from 1975 to 1990.
