In Amritsar, Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of Akal Takht, delivered a firm message to the Shiromani Akali Dal, urging them to stop delaying the acceptance of Sukhbir Singh Badal’s resignation from his role as party chief. This call to action comes as the party’s working committee has not yet acted on Badal’s resignation, which was mandated by a ruling from five high Sikh priests on December 2. The edict from Akal Takht specified that the working committee should convene within three days to formalize the resignation, but the SAD has claimed they received a 20-day extension, which has now lapsed as of December 22. Additionally, the Akal Takht, recognized as the supreme authority for Sikhs, has called for a restructuring of the party through a membership drive lasting six months. To facilitate this, a seven-member committee led by SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami was established, but as of now, Dhami has not yet scheduled a meeting for the panel to discuss these important matters.
