Sumit Joshi 28 Mar 2025 :Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for the removal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as part of a new proposal for peace negotiations. Putin suggested establishing a “transitional administration” in Ukraine, backed by international forces, to oversee democratic elections and facilitate a peace agreement.
Speaking at the Arctic International Forum in Murmansk, Putin stated that Ukraine needs a new leadership that has the confidence of its people and can negotiate a legitimate peace deal. He criticized Zelensky’s continued rule, citing the lack of elections due to martial law.
Putin also ordered Russian forces to intensify their military operations, stating that they are “persistently and confidently” moving towards their objectives. “We will finish them off,” he declared, reinforcing Russia’s military dominance in the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has strongly rejected Putin’s remarks. Andriy Yermak, chief of staff to President Zelensky, accused Russia of undermining peace efforts and extending the war. Zelensky traveled to Paris to meet with European leaders in an attempt to strengthen diplomatic support against Russian aggression. However, he admitted that the talks left him with “many more questions than answers.”
The United States has also dismissed Putin’s proposal, affirming its continued support for Ukraine. Western allies remain cautious about any negotiations that could favor Moscow’s interests while Ukraine’s sovereignty remains at risk.
As tensions continue to escalate, the global diplomatic community is closely watching how the situation unfolds.
