Asaram, who is serving life imprisonment in a rape case, has been granted 7-day parole by the Jodhpur High Court. Asaram has been granted parole for treatment at Madhobagh Ayurvedic Hospital in Pune. Asaram’s parole was granted in the court of Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati. Asaram has been admitted to AIIMS Jodhpur for the last four days. Asaram has been granted parole after 11 years.
This is the first time Asaram’s parole has been granted. He will go to Maharashtra for treatment in police custody. Asaram’s health suddenly deteriorated a few days ago. He had complained of chest pain, after which the jail administration admitted him to Jodhpur AIIMS. After medical checkup here, he was admitted for treatment.
Asaram was convicted of raping a minor by a special POCSO court in Jodhpur on April 25, 2018 and sentenced to life imprisonment. Asaram has been in jail since September 2, 2013. Two years ago, a Gujarat court convicted Asaram for raping a woman follower on multiple occasions at his Surat ashram in 2013.
