The Union education ministry has instructed the NCERT to implement an annual review system for textbooks. Currently, there is no fixed mandate for yearly reviews, but the Council has been revising content since 2017. The ministry believes it is crucial for students to have updated textbooks at the beginning of each academic session.
The rationale behind this decision is that NCERT books should not remain unchanged for many years. They should be reviewed annually, allowing for necessary changes and the inclusion of new information. For example, topics like Artificial Intelligence (AI) are constantly evolving. The process of releasing new textbooks for all classes in accordance with the new National Curriculum Framework (NCF) will take at least two years, with students having access to them from the academic session of 2026-27.
