Delhi, 21 april 2025: United States Vice President JD Vance commenced his inaugural official visit to India on Monday, arriving at Palam airport accompanied by his family. This four-day trip, scheduled from April 21 to 24, follows his recent official engagement in Italy. Vance touched down in Delhi at approximately 9:30 am and immediately proceeded to the Akshardham Temple with his wife, Usha Vance, and their three children, Ewan, Vivek, and Maribel. Later that evening, he is set to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence located at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. In addition to Delhi, Vance’s itinerary includes visits to Jaipur and Agra on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, before his departure on Thursday morning. Upon arrival, Vance and his family were warmly welcomed by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and were honored with a ceremonial Guard of Honour. The Ministry of External Affairs has indicated that the discussions between PM Modi and JD Vance will encompass a wide range of topics, reflecting the Comprehensive Strategic Global Partnership between the United States and India. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the significance of such a partnership, suggesting that it naturally leads to discussions on pertinent issues. To facilitate Vance’s visit, numerous welcome hoardings have been erected throughout Delhi, and the city’s traffic police have issued advisories to ensure smooth traffic flow, advising residents to avoid certain routes in Central Delhi and to utilize public transportation when feasible. The timing of this visit is particularly noteworthy, as it coincides with a global trade war initiated by the US, which has imposed reciprocal tariffs on various countries, including India. During their meeting, PM Modi and JD Vance are anticipated to address several bilateral matters, with India expressing optimism that the discussions will further strengthen ties between the two nations.
