Chandigarh, May 7 (Press ki taquat bureau): In a significant political development, three Independent MLAs, namely Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder, have announced their withdrawal of support from the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP Government in Haryana. Instead, they have extended their support to the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha poll. This announcement was made during a program held in Rohtak today. Despite the withdrawal of support by these three MLAs, the Saini government is not immediately threatened as it still has the backing of two Independent MLAs and one MLA from the Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP), bringing the total support to 43. On the other hand, the Congress currently has 30 MLAs, with one MLA from the Indian National Lok Dal and 10 MLAs from the Jannayak Janta Party. However, at least five of these MLAs have rebelled against the party leadership and are leaning towards the BJP. Nevertheless, they are unable to switch sides due to the anti-defection law. With two vacant seats in the 90-member House, the BJP needs 45 seats to secure a majority. However, it falls short of the majority mark by two MLAs. Despite this, the government remains in a “safe zone” as the Opposition cannot bring a no-confidence motion against the government until mid-September. This is because, according to the rules, a no-confidence motion cannot be initiated within six months of the previous one. The Saini government had previously won a confidence motion on March 14 with the support of six out of seven Independent MLAs and the lone HLP MLA.
