The water level at the Bhakra Dam has decreased to 1,678.14 feet, which is approximately 2 feet lower than its maximum storage capacity of 1,680 feet. According to sources, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) plans to maintain a release rate of around 70,000 cusecs from the dam until the water level drops to 1,677 feet, providing a buffer of three feet below the peak level. This precautionary measure is intended to prepare for any potential rainfall that may occur in September. Since yesterday, the BBMB has consistently managed the outflow from the dam at this rate, with approximately 55,000 cusecs directed into the natural basin of the Sutlej River, while an additional 15,000 cusecs is being channeled into the Nangal hydel and Anandpur Sahib hydel canals originating from the Nangal Dam. Despite the reduction in water flow into the Sutlej basin, the Bela villages situated within the river basin remain isolated from the mainland. In response to this situation, local authorities and social volunteers are actively working to assist the residents of these villages in the Ropar district.
