A building that used to be home to the Mehfil restaurant in Sector 17 collapsed on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community. Fortunately, officials confirmed that there were no occupants inside at the time of the collapse. It turns out that the structure had been labeled unsafe prior to this incident, raising concerns about its condition. Following the collapse, which happened around 7:10 AM, police quickly cordoned off the area, and fire trucks were dispatched to ensure safety and manage the situation. The building was in the midst of repairs, but those efforts had been put on hold after it was deemed hazardous. As a precaution, the road in front of the building had been closed to traffic since late December. This incident echoes a tragic event from December 21, 2024, when a four-story building in Mohali’s Sohana village collapsed, resulting in the loss of two lives.
