Ujjain, 25 march (press ki tauquat bureau): Fourteen priests, along with assistants, sustained injuries in a fire that erupted during ‘bhasma aarti’ at Mahakal Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The fire originated in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple early in the morning, as confirmed by Ujjain Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh. Following the incident, fourteen priests were treated for burns, with some receiving treatment at the district hospital and others in Indore.
A magisterial investigation has been initiated by Zila Panchayat CEO Mrinal Meena and Additional Collector Anukool Jain, with a report expected within three days. The fire was triggered by colored powder falling on a puja thali containing burning camphor, eventually spreading and causing a blaze. CCTV cameras within the temple captured the entire incident, providing valuable footage for further analysis and investigation.
