New Delhi, March 26 (press ki taquat bureau): The protestors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were detained outside Patel Chowk metro station on Tuesday while demonstrating against the arrest of their convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. One of those detained was Harjot Singh Bains, a Punjab Minister and AAP leader.
The Delhi police had announced that no permission had been granted for protests and that Section 144 of the CrPC, which prohibits gatherings of four or more people in an area, was in effect. They also instructed the protestors to clear the area within five minutes. Security was heightened with the deployment of police outside Patel Chowk metro station due to AAP’s planned protest at the Prime Minister’s residence.
The BJP also held a protest in the national capital, demanding Kejriwal’s resignation as chief minister. BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa accused Kejriwal of trying to divert attention from an alcohol scam and called for his resignation. Paramilitary personnel in anti-riot gear were deployed on the road leading to the Prime Minister’s residence and outside Patel Chowk metro station in anticipation of the AAP’s protest.
