Labeling it a “perilous conspiracy” aimed at undermining the religious freedoms of Muslims, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has approached the Supreme Court to contest the constitutional legitimacy of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal brought the petition of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind before a three-judge panel headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, seeking an expedited hearing on the matter. In response, the Chief Justice remarked, “All the cases concerning the Waqf Amendment Act will be presented to me this afternoon. What is the reason for your mention when we already have a procedural system in place?”
