Mohali, April 18 (Press ki taquat bureau): Mumbai Indians secured their third victory of the IPL season against Punjab Kings, although they had a scare as they almost let the match slip away. After posting a total of 192/7, with Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive knock of 78 off 53 balls, MI had Punjab struggling at 14/4 and then 77/6.
However, Punjab’s Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma staged a recovery, with Sharma smashing seven sixes to bring his team back into contention. Mumbai’s Akash Madhwal had an expensive over, conceding 24 runs, but Jaspirt Bumrah’s three-wicket haul and economical bowling in the following over halted Punjab’s momentum.
Gerald Coetzee’s early dismissal of Ashutosh further sealed the match, and despite Harpreet Brar’s efforts, Punjab were bowled out for 183. Suryakumar’s fifty, along with contributions from Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Tim David, propelled Mumbai to their winning total.
